Therapy is a long-term process. Why?

When you start going to therapy, you need to know that you are engaging in a long-term process that requires patience and work (on both sides of the therapeutic relationship). Healing is a complex process which can have many ups and downs and which occurs over time, and this is because:

1. Change takes time

The way we experience things (the way we think, feel, and relate to ourselves and to our emotions) is something that has been built over time, throughout our development. You can't expect something that's been built during so many years to simply change overnight.

In short,

Psychotherapy is a process through which you transform yourself and build a more authentic, free, and strong version of yourself. It's not just about solving certain issues, and that takes time and patience.
